Last Thursday, the SEC announced that Corey Frayer, a senior aide to the US Senate, will now serve as senior advisor on issues that relate to cryptocurrencies. In his new functions, Mr. Frayer will have new obligations.
The role of Corey Frayer
In a press release issued last Thursday, the US securities regulator said Frayer will now be the institution’s senior advisor on settling cryptocurrency issues. His work will focus on “SEC Policy-Making and Interagency Work Regarding Cryptocurrency Oversight”.
Prior to joining the SEC team, Mr. Frayer worked as a senior staff member on the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee under the leadership of Senator Sherrod Brown. In the past, he served as Maxine Waters’ Senior Advisor to the House of Representatives Financial Services Committee.
“They have an exceptional experience”
In another brief statement, Gary Gensler, the man at the head of the SEC, said that “Corey, Phil, Jenny and Jorge have an exceptional experience”. It is this experience that they will use to offer support and enlighten the American regulator on all matters relating to digital assets.
“I have already begun to rely on their valuable guidance on agency policy, enforcement and operations, and look forward to continuing our work together to carry out the SEC’s mission,” Mr Gensler added. Recall that Gary Gensler took office in April 2021 and since then has sought to define clear and precise rules to which all players in the cryptocurrency market would comply. In September, he claimed he wanted to bring cryptocurrency “Within the framework of public policies”.
The American regulator wants to determine rules in order to clean up the cryptocurrency environment more cleanly. To this end, its senior manager, its management team has chosen to install Corey Frayer in the functions of senior advisor on all topics related to cryptocurrencies.
