Ghozali spent five years taking selfies in front of his computer, which were then converted into NFTs and uploaded to OpenSea in December 2021. Indeed, the Indonesian student is said to have become a millionaire by selling non-fungible token (NFT) versions of his selfies on the OpenSea NFT marketplace.

An Indonesian student turned his selfies into NFTs

Sultan Gustaf Al Ghozali, a 22-year-old computer science student from Semarang, Indonesia, converted and sold nearly 1,000 selfie images as NFTs. According to Ghozali, he took pictures of himself for five years, between the ages of 18 and 22, to reflect on his graduation journey.

Ghozali’s selfies were taken sitting or standing in front of his computer and were later converted to NFT and uploaded to OpenSea in December 2021. The artist priced each NFT selfie at $3 without waiting for interest from buyers serious. While monetizing his expressionless images, Ghozali said:

“ You can do anything like edit them or whatever you want, but please don’t abuse my photos or my parents will be very disappointed in me. I believe in you, so please take care of my photos. »

Going against his wildest expectations, Ghozali’s NFT bid skyrocketed as prominent members of Twitter Crypto showed their support by buying and trading the bids.

    The heyday of Ghozali’s NFTs

With the popularity growing, one of Ghozali’s NFTs sold for 0.247 ether (ETH) on January 14, worth $806 at the time of purchase, according to AFP. The young entrepreneur also adds a touch of personalization by providing basic information with the selfies, which adds to the scarcity of the NFT.

At its peak, Ghozali’s NFT selfies sold for 0.9 ETH, worth around $3,000, according to a Lifestyle Asia report. Ghozali’s collection went on to reach a total trading volume of 317 ethers, equivalent to over $1 million. The young artist also made his first tax payment based on this income via OpenSea.

Despite the recent lackluster performance of the overall crypto market, the NFT market and the blockchain gaming industry continue to see high transaction volumes.

The data of DappRadar show that the number of UAWs connected to Ethereum NFT DApps has increased by 43% since the third quarter of 2021. In addition, the money generated by NFT trading has increased from $10.7 billion in the third quarter of 2021 to 11, $9 billion in the first ten days of 2022.

Sultan Gustaf Al Ghozali, a 22-year-old student from Indonesia has won $1 million after the amazing success of his NFTs on OpenSea. Indeed, Ghozali returned to his graduation journey through selfies that he then transformed into NFT. His project quickly gained notoriety and prices skyrocketed making him a wealthy man. The NFT market is now opening doors and the lives of its players.
