US SEC takes on TON
The TON project was previously known as the Telegram Open Network. It was originally designed and developed by the Telegram team, receiving support from the founder of the cloud-based instant messaging service, Pavel Durov.
However, in May 2020, the project was shut down and Telegram pulled out of it following a dispute with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Several independent DLT (distributed ledger technology) development teams continued to work on the project, and soon the TON blockchain came back to life as Toncoin, operating independently of Telegram.
After hearing news about this blockchain, Telegram founder Pavel Durov once again expressed his support for the project and its developers.
“When Telegram said goodbye to TON last year, I expressed hope that future generations of developers will one day pursue our vision of a mass blockchain platform.
So I was inspired to see the champions of Telegram’s coding contests continue to develop the TON open project, which they renamed Toncoin […] I wish his team the same success. With a good go-to-market strategy, they have everything they need to build something epic. » he wrote in a communicated posted on his Telegram channel.
